The aim of the lesson plan included familiarising students with landscape contract processes by means of a site visit class discussions. The practical experience in particular was hoped to provide students with real-life examples to relate to the theoretical components of the course.
Although all the third year students have already participated in a 6 month Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience, and must have had some exposure to construction elements on site, I did not observe many students who were able to make connections between their physical experiences and theoretical learning. In general I struggle to even know where to begin explaining to students how to draw on a wide range of memories, experiences and knowledge in order to understand and apply course content.
